Follow these simple steps to create a simple post on your WordPress website, using the Default Editor.

Login to your WordPress website’s dashboard with your admin credentials. In most cases, this login area will be your website address followed by /wp-admin

On the left-hand side menu, select [Posts] to navigate to the Posts module of your WordPress website.

You’ll notice all your Posts listed in a table, click the button at the top of the screen for [Add Post].

If your website is using the Divi Theme, you’ll notice an option to Use Divi Builder or use Default Editor. For this process, please select [Use Default Editor].

*Divi Builder is a website theme by Elegant Themes; not all WordPress website installations will present this option.

The “Build Your Layout Using Divi” would then disappear, you and will be left with “Add title” and “Type / to choose a block” section. Great!

Place your cursor in the [Add title] area and enter the title for your Post.

Then, click in the section for [Type / to choose a block], and enter your paragraph text for your post. These can even be a copy and paste from a Word document of content you already have.

Example of written content would look like this:

If you click/select the paragraph text you just entered, you will notice options to style the text, such as to make something bold.

If you click at the end of your last sentence, and press [Enter/Return] you will notice another ‘Block’ section will appear.

Place your cursor in the [Type / to choose a block] selection, and glance to the right side of your screen to find a square block with a + inside.

Select the [+] block for “Add block”. You’ll notice different options appear. In case you wanted to add another Paragraph of text, make a List, or perhaps insert an Image.

When you are finished with the content of your post, you’ll want to follow the next couple of steps to get your Post ready for publishing live on the website.

Next, we are going to set a ‘Featured Image’ for the Post. On some websites, this will appear as the main image for the post. On the right side of your screen, you will notice a button for [Set featured image], click this.

You will be able to upload an image directly at this step, or you can click the tab for “Media Library” to select an image that is already uploaded to your website.

After you select your image, you may need to click a button for [Set featured image] towards the bottom of your screen.

You’ll notice your featured image has now been set.

Next, you may consider setting a Category for your post. Some websites filter content depending on the category that is selected. Select the option for [Categories] on the right side of your screen to show all available options. Select the checkboxes for whichever category is appropriate.

*Some websites configure Posts for certain categories to be presented on certain areas or pages of the website. This is why it is important to make sure your post has an appropriate category selected before Publishing.

Navigate to another section near the categories area is a section called ‘Divi Page Settings’. You may need to click the drop-down arrow to expand.

Notice that Page Layout is defaulted to Right Sidebar. Select the drop-down field for ‘Page Layout’ and select option for ‘No Sidebar’ to make the post full width.

Finally, when you are ready to Publish the post, navigate to the top right of your screen and select the [Publish] button. This will make your post live on your website.

You may be presented with a second confirmation to Publish. If so, select ‘Publish’ again to make it live.

When successful, you will notice the follow ribbon message presented on the bottom left corner of your screen.

It is always recommended to navigate to the live version of your website to verify that the post is live. You can do this by visiting the website directly on another browser tab, and navigate to where the post should be visible on your website.
